The trip to Moscow was only 17 hr, including two 1-hour flight changes, both of which went perfectly. My Russian colleague and radio astronomer M. Popov very kindly met me at Domodedovo and drove me to hotel "Basis-M", which he'd suggested. The location can't be beat: on Chrispudny bulvar, a short walk from a station on 3 Metro lines and about 2 km from Red Square. It has bath, shower, washer, wi-fi and even a small kitchen in the hall. However, they did want payment in in cash. Tomorrow I will take care of this and start adjusting to the 10-hour time change.
Here is the street scene on Chrispudy bulvar at 10 pm. This jazz quartet was playing for tips on a street corner. This far north it's still late, and the small park was crowded with relaxed Russians. It's been hot, and many were enjoying a beer. A few teenage males were wearing kitten ears on a hair band - this seems to be a new style
I want to see the kitten ears!
